On the 28th of March,2018, we boarded a night train( 2 AC) from Old Delhi to Pathankot. We had been waiting for this day for 4 months. We booked the train ticket and hotel room 4 months ago. We reached Pathankot station in the morning of 29th March, 2018. We had our breakfast at the station. Then we came out of the station and booked the car to go to Dalhousie. The driver told us that he knew the hotel we booked. Distance from Pathankot to Dalhousie is 85 km. The British created this hill town by the name of Lord Dalhousie. Before it was in Punjab. Now it is under the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh.
We reached the hotel around 11:30 am. Arriving to Dalhousie my first feeling was that I had never breathed in such pure air. The location of our hotel was awesome. The weather was very pleasant with cool healthy air. Best time to visit Himachal Pradesh is from March to May. But lots of people go to Himachal in September or October, because there are apples on the tree at that time.
After bathing in the room, we had lunch at the hotel. Then we decided to walk Gandhi chowk first and from there to Subhash chowk. The distance between Gandhi chowk and Subhash chowk is 2 km. After reaching Gandhi chowk we went to St. John’s Church which is Dalhousie’s oldest church. There is a market and a mini market of Tibetans. After visiting the church we went to the market. Various wooden products and stone made items are being sold. I saw a variety of pickles in a shop. I asked the shopkeeper to give me three jars of pickled apricots. But the pickle was not tasty.
After walking about 2 km from Gandhi chowk, we arrived at Subhash chowk. There is a viewer point, from here the hills of Dalhousie, covered with pine and cedar trees, are very beautiful. There is a statue of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.
There is a church named ST. Francis’s church on the opposite side of Subhash chowk. We went to visit St. Francis’s church. Many cedar trees around the church have given the church a different beauty. There are a few good restaurants and dhabas around Subhash chowk.
