THREE DAYS IN UDAIPUR, 28 NOVEMBER 2018-PART-1
RANAKPUR JAIN TEMPLE
On 28 November, after breakfast we started for Ranakpur Jain Temple. Distance between Jodhpur city and the Ranakpur Jain Temple is 156 kms. We started at 9 am and reached the temple about 12:15 pm. The temple open for non Jain from 12 noon to 5 pm. It is open for Jain communities whole day. There are no entry fee for Indians and entry fee(perhaps Rs 200) for foreigners. There are camera fee for every visitor. The temple is located near Sardi town of Pali district in Rajasthan. Temple authority do not allow any leather articles, drinking water and food inside the temple. You can deposit your bag etc. in the locker near ticket window. The temple is 600 years old.
It’s a very popular spot for foreigners also because of its architectural features. The temple is a grand white marble structure spread over 48,000 square feet with 1444 marble pillars, 29 halls and 84 domes. It is not allowed to take photo of the magnificent statue of God. Designs of each pillar is different. The temple is very beautiful and none can describe it. We are lucky because we visited this temple.
We came here from Jodhpur city by a car. Near by Airport is Maharana Pratap airport(Udaipur). Near by railway station is Falna and distance from Falna Road to Ranakpur is 34 kms. Distance between Ranakpur Jain Temple and Kumbhalgarh Fort is 51 km.
We stayed there for 2 hours. Then we had our lunch at a good restaurant after a short driving distance. Then we started our journey. We reached Udaipur at 6:30 pm.
UDAIPUR( THE WHITE CITY)
Udaipur is known as “The White City”. It is also known as “City of Lakes”. It is founded by Maharana Udai Singh in 1559. There are six artificial lakes in Udaipur, among them Lake Pichola and Lake Fateh Sagar are famous.
Tomorrow we would go to see the famous City Palace. This palace is located on the bank of ‘Lake Pichola’.
We stayed for 3 days at a small hotel which is a 300 years old residence near City Palace. It was rebuilt by its owner in 1999. It is modern and very comfortable.
Lake Palace is situated over an island in Lake Pichola. It was constructed as a royal summer palace. The palace is now a luxary 5 star hotel, operating under the “Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces” banner.
